General

Standard Materials of Construction
Our Horizontal Split Case pumps have been specifically designed for fire pump requirements, utilizing the latest hydraulic techniques available.  All the fire pumps are manufactured to high standards of quality in the material, construction, and workmanship of each unit.

Casing
The casings are of a high quality cast iron, with a minimum tensile strength of 40,000 PSI.  The casing is a split-case design simplifying inspection and dis-assembly.

Impeller
The double-suction impellers are bronze, enclosed design, keyed to the shaft, and secured by shaft sleeves.  All impellers are dynamically balanced to ensure smooth operation.  The double suction feature balances out hydraulic thrust loads.  Impeller wear rings are an available option.

Shaft
The shafts are alloy steel, machined and ground to close tolerances.  They are sized to transmit the torque and handle the imposed hydraulic loads, all the while maintaining a minimum amount of deflection under any flow condition.

Shaft Sleeves
To protect the shaft against wear and corrosion, bronze shaft sleeves are provided.  The shaft sleeves and sleeve nuts hold the impeller in place.  The sleeves are double set screwed at 90° apart and key-locked to prevent their rotation in either direction.  They extend from the impeller to slightly beyond the package gland area.

Casing Wear Rings
Bronze semi-circular wear rings provide the sealing between the suction and discharge areas of the casing.  The rings are staked by two stainless steel pins at 180° apart to prevent their rotation and dislocation.

Bearings
Grease lubricated ball bearings are provided.  The outboard bearing is a duplex angular contact ball thrust bearing.  The inboard bearing is a single row radial ball bearing.  The bearings are enclosed in a re-greasable housing. The bearing sizes are selected to provide a minimum L10 life of 200,000 hours.

Stuffing Boxes
Stuffing boxes are extra deep for proper sealing.  A minimum of five split packing rings will provide the sealing for each side.  Packing glands simplify installation and removal of the packing.

Discharge Assembly

The standard surface discharge assembly is cast iron and is designed to support the driver as well as the pump column pipe.

Discharge Bowl Assembly
Standard assembly includes cast iron bowls, stainless steel shafts, bronze backed neoprene bowl bearings.  Bronze impellers and 316 stainless steel hardware provide long life and less maintenance.  Bronze discharge bowl wear rings are permanently attached to the bowl to eliminate the possibility of rotational and axial movement.

Suction Bowl
Bell-mouth suction bowl provides minimal flow restriction at the impeller entrance.

Pump Shaft/Lineshaft
The bowl shaft is stainless steel machined and ground to close tolerances.  They are sized to transmit the torque and handle the imposed, hydraulic thrust loads, all the while maintaining minimum amount of deflection under any flow conditions.

Basket Strainer
Strainer standard material is bronze and is attached to the suction bowl.  The strainer has a flow area equal to four times the minimum cross sectional area of the suction bowl.  The openings of the strainer will not permit passage of solids larger than 1/2″ sphere.

Bearings
Bearings are spaced no more than 10 ft. apart, in order to ensure adequate centering of the line shaft within the column.  Cutless rubber bearings are provided to maximize service life and reliability.

Shaft Couplings
Stainless steel heavy duty sleeve couplings are standard.

Column Pipes
All the column pipes are flanged for ease of assembly and dis-assembly.  The standard material is prime grade steel conforming to ANSI standards and length does not exceed 10 ft.  All column flanges are machined for a rabbet fit to permit accurate alignment.

Head Shaft
Stainless steel shafts are supplied standard.
